About the Candidate

FamilyPrior to being elected to the County Commission in 2010, Richard was employed as a physician assistant with a local orthopedic surgeon.   He and his wife, Rachelle, have three wonderful children.  Richard is a graduate of Valley Center High and Wichita State University.  He is retired from the Army Reserves and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf and Iraq wars.

Richard has deep roots in District 4.   He spent his early years living in rural Sedgwick County, west of Valley Center. Since then he has lived in Park City, Riverview, and north Wichita.   While in college, he did his student teaching at Maize High School.

Shortly after graduating high school, Richard joined the Army Reserves as a military policeman.   In 1998 he received a direct commission as a physician assistant and ultimately served 21 years before retiring in 2004.

Richard attended Wichita State University and received a degree in Secondary Education - Math in 1988.  After graduating, he took an opportunity to work for Boeing as a computer analyst.  He continued as an analyst until he returned to college in 1995 to become a physician assistant.  Throughout the years, Richard continued to also study Spanish, which led to him receiving his third bachelor's degree in 1999.

In his spare time, Richard enjoys spending time with his family, sports, fishing, and gun collecting.  He and his family attend Riverlawn Christian Church.
